With unparalleled ease, crime and accident scenes can be quickly mapped in true-to-life imagery in just minutes, then later viewed from any angle, explored from any angle and measured from any angle. This capability is made possible by PIX4D, a 3 dimensional mapping software system available from UAVDirect, a Texas based provider of unmanned aerial systems.
The software is fully compatible with today’s drones that are inexpensive, easy to fly and produce very high resolution images. The process for using the drones with the software is simply flying the scene, taking overlapping images that are then offloaded to a PC hosting the PIX4D software. From there, the software and PC does the hard work of precisely stitching the photos together, rendering an explore-able 3D world of the crime scene. The process will amaze you-- it's way easier than you think. We host one day seminars in which we train operators in all required skills to perform crime scene mapping.
After investigations are complete, a video-fly-through can be exported for court viewing and guest licenses are available for discovery purposes. Mapping software such as PIX4D is currently in use by leading investigation teams world-wide and is quickly becoming a default for precision documentation of scenes.
